An Afternoon At the Links

On Sunday, Robin and I headed out for a couple of our favorite pastimes, golfing and enjoying an ice cold barley pop or two. We played at one of our favorite courses in St. George, Dixie Red Hills. Yep, that’s really the name. Built in 1965, it’s the oldest golf course in St. George. It’s only nine holes, pretty damn short, and perfect for a Sunday afternoon with my lovely wife. The course is incredibly scenic, somehow they keep the grass green all summer (on Sunday it was only 99⁰, so a cool summer day in SG), and there’s red rock everywhere.

Eighth hole at Dixie Red Hills, my Baby crushed it

My wife is not thrilled about having her picture taken, and she typically doesn’t allow me to watch her hit her shots (I have to look the opposite direction or down the fairway). So, the attached photo is a rarity since I obviously did both, took her photo and watched her hit her shot. And she did awesome, a hundred yards right in the middle of the fairway. That’s my Baby!

Giant cat running for cover

On the last hole we saw the enormous cat in the photo above. He’s kind of hard to see, but he’s there. I’m honestly not certain if it’s a regular cat or something wild, probably just a feral cat that’s a really good hunter. He (or she) hasn’t missed many meals and it’s at least twenty pounds, bigger than our little Jordy, who weighs 19 pounds.

Anyway, a fun day at the links. Although that’s technically not accurate because links courses are primarily courses near the sea with few if any trees, and typically only found in the UK (thank you, Cliff Clavin). I can also say from experience that there is no links course in the UK where it’s ever been 99⁰, even in July, more like 59⁰ and usually windy as hell. But I’d go back there in a heartbeat.
